A Formula for Procrastination

A University of Calgary Professor Steel finally (after 10 years of study) explains procrastination with a math equation!

The equation reads: Utility = E x V / (Gamma) x D

Steel's formula, called the Temporal Motivation Theory, calculates procrastination like Albert Einstein's equation for energy, E=MC². It factors the person's expectancy for succeeding at a given task (E) or self-confidence; the value of completing the task (V); its immediacy or availability (Gamma); and the person's sensitivity to delay (D) to come up with the desirability of the task (Utility).

I suppose if I ever want to get our bathroom remodeling completed I'm going to have to increase one of the variables in the equation,,,

The other night I was in the kitchen watching the news while Kevin and the two little ones were in the living room watching a Discovery program.  The roads were bad and a story of an accident not far from our house involving an 18-wheeler and concrete contruction barriers was being broadcast.  My comment was:

Me: "Holy shit!"

Since Kevin didn't quite hear what I said, his reaction was to ask:

Kevin: "What did Grammy say?"

3-year-old's reply: "Holy shit"

I'm in the kitchen cracking up while Kevin is trying to explain why we don't always repeat everything a grown-up says; sorry, just couldn't help it!

A Decision (Finally!)

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Blubbering as he announced his ruling, a judge said Thursday he hopes Anna Nicole Smith will be buried in the Bahamas, but he left the decision up to the guardian of her baby daughter.

Isn't that like a judge not making a decision??  Good gawd, just let the poor woman be buried and get it over with already!!

One really has to feel sorry for the little baby girl that has been left behind.  I'm sure if her mother would have redone her will when life's circumstances changed, the baby would have been well taken care of.

This should be a lesson to all of us; no matter how little we have, when our life's course changes in any way we should also make sure to update any and all legal documents (wills included).

Frozen Fog

As I looked out the kitchen window this morning I thought maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me.  The world was covered in a dense fog that froze on anything it came into contact with.  While the trees were beautiful covered in a  frozen mist, the streets, roads and parking lots were like skating rinks.

Growing up in southern Louisiana I'm all too familiar with fog, but not the kind that freezes over!

By the way, can anyone find the squirrel in the walnut tree?  We have a pair that live in the three walnut trees right outside the kitchen window; the kids love to watch them run up and down the trees and across the limbs.  I'm thinking they could be mighty tasty little treats come next fall! I'd probably play hell getting the kids to eat them, though!

Gmail For All

Today Google will open Gmail for all.  Invitations will no longer be required to get a Gmail account. 

I've had an account for almost 3 years.  A new account comes with 2.8 gigabytes of storage; all the storage you need and more.  I have/had a hotmail account for years, then they limited you to a tiny amount of storage unless you paid a yearly fee (for a free email account that didn't make much sense!)

According to the article, Gmail will offer more space later in the year for a small fee. I sure hope they don't cut down the size of storage on the original account!

The Day After

It's finally stopped snowing and the wind has died down to a steady breeze so of course the temperature dropped to the single digits!

No school again today,,,the best time to build a snow fort!!  I would take more pictures but that would mean having to put on three more layers of clothing and it just ain't worth it!! (At least not to me!)
