NEW YORK | Don't bow, just curtsey a bit.
That's the message the United States Olympic Committee is giving athletes going to the highly charged Olympic Games in Athens this August
CURTSEY?? For God's sake, this is getting ridiculous!
Does the U.S. Olympic Committee think we should feel ashamed of being Americans??
We're not the favorite kids in the world as a country," Bill Martin, the University of Michigan athletics director and acting USOC president said at the U.S. Olympic Team Media Summit, a gathering in Midtown Manhattan this weekend that included some 80 Athens-bound athletes. "Obviously we're sensitive. Not just to security, but to flaunting, to jingoism in its raw sense. We're trying to educate our team to appropriate behavior, but these are going to be a tough Games for us."
What the hell is "jingoism"? I don't think anyone can be too 'proud' of their country!
And what will be deemed "appropriate behavior"? Shall we ask the Greeks 'Please don't play our National Anthem when an American wins a Gold Medal; we don't want to piss anyone off'??
