This is my last working day in Japan (for a while). I walked to the train station last night to get purchase my ticket on the bullet train to the airport on Saturday. A summer festival begins here in Japan on Friday night and last throughout next week. There was what I can only describe as "a battle of the drums" in town. Wow, what noise those big ones make! You can hear them for a looong way! It was interesting, though. I've never seen this done, nor do I know what was really going on. I'll try to find someone who speaks English well enough and show them the pictures for an explanation.
I have to chuckle sometimes as I watch the teenagers around here. Someone should tell them that Americans really don't dress like the 60's anymore! Every sale you see that has an American flag above the table has tie-dyed shirts, rolled cuff jeans, and ball caps. The style here is to wear a ball cap slightly askew. Don't know what that symbolizes, either! I may try to get some pictures of the clothing styles, although me taking pictures of teenage girls may seem a little strange. Yes, this coming from a person who walked around town taking pictures of manhole covers!!
