Really say 'Thanks' to a Vet!

This week we all (or most all of us) told a veteran thanks for his or her service to our country.  Thanks for preserving the freedom we all love.

Know what I really don't understand?

If we are so grateful to those currently serving our country, why is it that those same servicemen/women with families are paid so little that they barely live above poverty level?

I hardly think that shows how much we care, do you?

Exploration Results

Sunday we were going to explore the city and go listen to a blues guitarist that we found advertised on the web.

Not knowing the area, we mapquested the address of the blues joint and took off with high hopes of an enjoying afternoon of music.

The closer we got to our destination the more indecisive I was about this being the right way to spend a lovely Sunday afternoon.  Run-down housing turned into closed down manufacturing shops.  Once we finally reached the end of our journey I told the hubby to just keep on driving,,,the outside of the building was spray painted (very colorfully, I might add) and looked like the headquarters for Houston's drug cartel!  No way was I getting out of the car much less going inside!!

So, we decided to just drive around town and see what we could find. Boy, glad we did!!!!

We discovered a HUGE mall (The Galleria) and wonderful places to eat!  We didn't stop at the mall since it was almost 4:00 PM and we figured it would close in a couple hours anyway, but I know where it's at and how to get there now!! 

I think the best plan for visiting the mall would be to get a room at the Marriott (right across the street) and spend the weekend, walking over to the mall to do all our shopping at one time!  At least, that's what I'm trying to convince the hubby to do; don't think it will take too much to convince him! *S*

Exploring We Will Go!!

Today is another day for exploring, good or bad.

Let us hope we don't get all discombobulated and are able to find our way downtown to a small blue's bar on 24th Street with a live show this afternoon. 

Even more important, let us hope we find our way back home when all is said and done!

Texas Flora

Okay, we did get out this weekend and do a little snooping, a little shopping and a lot of eating!!

I first found this beautiful plant/bush/shrub or whatever it's called in this neck of the woods and had no idea what it was. I did know the small flowers were pretty, sort of reminded me of a cluster of lilac flowers but not that big.

Turns out it's called Lantana or more locally known as 'Ham 'n Eggs'; guess ya just have to see the picture to understand the nickname.
